TRAVELERS are only now discovering a hidden feature in the plane bathroom – and it will help keep their hands germ-free.
It’s a common problem for frequent flyers – after going to the bathroom and washing your hands, you have to worry about disposing of tissues or paper towels in the trash.
If it’s a long flight, these boxes can fill up quickly and by the time you need to use them, they may be overflowing.
Trying to dispose of your paper towel can be a nightmare as you try to put it in the recycling bin and at the same time keep your hands from touching what’s already there.
However, there is a solution for those who like to avoid being covered in germs and it seems that most people are not aware of it.
Everything was revealed in an Instagram post that revealed a way to open the trash can lid without having to put your hands near it.
In the footage, which has already received more than 110,000 likes, it shows that there is actually a small pedal below the sink that will open the lid for you.
The social media user known as @guthealthboxer said: “I was sitting there on my flight back from Thailand and I saw a little lever standing up and I was wondering what that was for and sure enough it was in the trash I never knew.
“What the hell!! No more touching that trash can. Did you know that?”
It seems from the comments that not many people were aware of this.
One person said: “I’ve flown crew for over 26 years and I’ve never seen this before!”
Another wrote: “No, I just learned that too.”
While a third added: “OMG I never knew that. Thanks.”
Although, as one commenter pointed out: “Hmmm, there is an instruction sign next to the trash receptacle.”
Another viewer pointed out: “How is it a hack when the picture on the lid tells you how to open it?”
It’s also not the only hidden feature you can find on a plane.
A small rail at the bottom of the overhead compartments is installed to give passengers something to hold on to as they wander through the aisle, keeping it stable and letting other passengers nap.
You may not have seen them, but airplane windows have little holes in them.
An interesting safety feature on planes is a tray lock that only opens in one direction.
One safety feature that regularly scares passengers is the speed control tape – which looks a lot less safe than it actually is.
There’s also a secret closet in the bathroom – here’s how to find it.
And a pilot revealed that there’s a secret window you didn’t even know existed.
