A SIMPLE camping trick can make sleeping in bad weather a lot easier.
With the summer holidays and festival season upon us, it’s prime time to pitch your tent.
However, this being a British summer, there is always the lurking threat of a shower or light thunderstorm as you climb.
In fact, just a few weeks ago, Download Festival fell into a mud bath amidst heavy rain.
Fortunately, experts from Winstons Beds are available to give you tips for sleeping peacefully through the night, even if your walls are made of polyester.
Rebbecca Swain, mattress expert at Winstons, said: “If you’re new to camping, you might be wondering if you’ll sleep well.
“Sleeping in a new place can be complicated, so it’s important to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
“The location where you decide to pitch your tent is also very important.
“Ideally, your tent should be flat and flat.”
Rebecca also emphasized the importance of ensuring the entrance to your tent is out of the wind, adding: “This will help prevent cold air from entering your tent, making it too cold to sleep in.”
Once set up, there are also a few things you can do inside the tent itself to make yourself comfortable.
A set of earplugs can be a lifesaver when it comes to blocking out the gusty wind, animal noises, and general sounds of the night.
Likewise, a Bluetooth speaker to play calming music or quiet sounds can be a great option.
Another problem with tents is that they don’t always block light well.
If you’re camping in the summer, sunrise might be a little earlier than you’d like, so it’s best to invest in an eye mask so you can lie down on sunny mornings.
Rebecca also recommended waiting to change clothes until just before going back to sleep to make sure you sleep in clean, dry clothes.
Finally, be sure to check the weather before you go and pack appropriately.
If it’s 15°C at night, you won’t need your thickest winter sleeping bag.
However, those brave enough to camp in the colder months may want to bring some blankets, as the mercury can drop quickly overnight.

Three Camping Tips from an Expert
David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about making a camping trip go well.
When visiting any campsite this summer, it’s important to make sure you don’t make any simple mistakes that could ruin your vacation.
Check your tent
David recommends setting up your tent a few weeks before your trip to give yourself enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.
He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”
Test the waters
Choosing a good location to pitch your tent is difficult and there are many things to consider.
One of them should be the condition of the land where you are pitching your tent, according to David.
He said: “Once you find the perfect spot, test the ground with your stakes before committing to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”
Don’t take a nap in your tent
It may seem like the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent can end badly if done at the wrong time of day.
David explained: “If the sun is shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!
“One of our friends napped in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up in the medical tent with heatstroke.”
Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well-ventilated.
