At 145 feet tall and 3,086 feet long, Rapterra is the tallest and longest roller coaster in the world.

The ride, based on Jungle Hawk, is launched as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The attraction takes its name from the story of an ancient sanctuary, which was once built to honor the falcon.

Built at the base of the Monte Inferna volcano, the sanctuary ended up being destroyed when a magma chamber collapsed.

According to the theme park’s website, archaeologists who recently discovered the volcanic site discovered the remains of the Jungle Hawk sanctuary.

The ride mimics the sensation of flying and passengers may be shocked by the instantaneous acceleration.

Rapterra accelerates riders to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds, taking them from zero to superhero speeds.

The rapid change in speed is intended to imitate “a Jungle Hawk as it attacks its prey.”

What’s more, travelers can expect thrilling drops as the car takes them over the roller coaster peak through diving loops, S-turns, hills and even a 360-degree raptor spin.

The ride of a lifetime lasts just 89 seconds and turns riders upside down three times.

“We are thrilled to unveil Rapterra, the 2025 can’t-miss ride, at Kings Dominion,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion.

“This extraordinary addition promises new excitement for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration.

“[It reaffirms] why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and thrilling excitement.”

Construction of the ride is already underway and is expected to be completed in the fall.

The ride will be Kings Dominion’s 14th roller coaster and will replace the former Volcano: The Blast Coaster, which the park closed in 2018.
