Speaking on Newstalk radio On Lunchtime Live, the author of Confessions of an Air Hostess said, “One of the most annoying things for me was when people would blow their nose and hand you their tissue.”

“When you walk down the hall picking up trash and people sometimes say, ‘Oh, wait!” and just blow their noses.”

Marisa remembered one incident in particular where a rude passenger threw his used tissue into her plate of food.

She said: “I actually remember one time I was coming back from LA for a break and I closed the curtain.

“An American passenger pulled back the curtain and said, ‘Hey, I have something for you’ and threw his tissue on my plate during the meal – thinking he was doing me a favor.”

Another annoying passenger habit comes from parents trying to keep their children entertained during flights.

She said: “The other is people playing musical instruments for their children in the middle of the night.

“I had to go down and say, ‘Can you turn this off because people are sleeping?’ There are other ways to entertain your kids… but please don’t bring a musical toy and play at 3am.

“I couldn’t believe it…some people just don’t think about other passengers.”

She added: “The other thing is they let their kids run up and down the hallway; this is actually a security risk.

I save £100 with a ‘secret’ airport hack that lets me take an extra bag on the plane – it’s totally legal and only costs £1.55

“You have a pot of tea or coffee boiling in your hand and turbulence can happen without warning.”

In another section, the former flight attendant explained that she was always perplexed by the fact that some passengers did not wear shoes or socks in the cabin.

She added: “The bathroom floor is always wet and yet they walk up and down it – especially when you are trying to get the job done.

“The other thing is they let their kids run up and down the hallway; this is actually a security risk.

Meanwhile, Marisa explained that people should not be ashamed or embarrassed to ask for sick bags if they don’t feel well.

Everything you need to know before boarding a plane

She said: “The minute you feel unwell you should ask for a sick bag, the crew would rather give you a sick bag than be vomited on.

“A lady came up, I was standing near the bathroom and she vomited on my legs.

“I had to take off my pantyhose and do all the work with bare legs. She said, ‘I’m sorry, I was embarrassed to ask for a motion sickness bag.’

Another recurring problem she faced as a flight attendant was drunk men asking for “a kiss or asking which hotel you are staying at.”

It turns out a flight attendant has revealed the real reason why crew greet passengers when they board the aircraft – and why they might stop you.

The inside information was shared by Beth Bourneuf, a former teacher who became a flight attendant in 2020.

She explained how the crew will be at the entrance of the plane for a secret reason.

The goal is to identify able-bodied passengers, also known as ABPs, who can help in an emergency.

“We look to see how many bags people are carrying and we also have to be conscious of the type of bags they are carrying,” Bourneuf said. “Anyone with a refrigerator needs to ask what’s in there.”
