A WOMAN has left people in hysterics over her name, which they consider a “joke” – and it’s even worse when they discover her brothers’ nicknames.

There is a long list of beautiful names that have a silent letter – for example, Phoebe, Isla or Juliette.

The same goes for several nicknames from different languages that are spelled differently to how we pronounce them – like Margot and Aoife.

However, sometimes parents decide to insert a random letter just for fun, in a desperate attempt to make the name seem more unique and special.

Unfortunately for one woman, her parents’ choice is so bizarre that people wonder if the pair were drunk when they named her.

Taking to Reddit to share the fun story, she wrote: “My sister is named Briadna (pronounced Brianna).

”My mother saw the name in a soap opera and decided to add a silent D to a normal name.

“A few years ago, my sister got me a job at the store where she worked.

There are no silent Ds. Her name is Bri-ad-na

Perplexed Redditorsocial media

”The manager asked me how to spell my name, which is similar to Isabella, nothing crazy. She asked if it was one or two L, and I said it was two.

“She then asked my brother’s name, which is Alan. She asked if there was a random H somewhere. I said no.

“Then she asked why my mom put a random D in Briadna’s name and jokingly said that my mom must have been drunk when she got the birth certificate.”

The woman went on to say how she came home laughing and shared the funny story with her mother and sister – however, the mother didn’t find the joke particularly amusing.

Controversial gender reveal shocks the Internet

According to the Redditor, the lighthearted incident left her mother furious and sparked a family conversation where her sister complained about her name and “how she always wanted it to be spelled Brianna.”

The Reddit writer continued, “She was always just called Bri and says people often confused her name with Brenda or something similar.”

Other Reddit users flocked to comments where they joked about the poor woman’s name.

Names banned in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.

One social media user responded: “There are no silent Ds. Her name is Bri-ad-na. WTAF?”

However, another user intervened and corrected: “In Ireland, that spelling makes sense!”

Someone joked: “The way her name is spelled makes it look like someone with a really bad cold is trying to say Brianna.”

This comes after another Reddit user shared how her cousin named her baby Lylyt Yvyh Yryhl – and even more shocking is the way it’s pronounced.

“Recently, my cousin gave birth to a baby girl and shared photos on her Facebook page.

“She then sent that Facebook post to our family group chat,” the Redditor wrote.

“Her daughter’s name is Lylyt Yvyh Yryhl, read as ‘Lilith Eva Uriel,’” the mortified person explained.

“I was laughing so hard when I read it and she said she wanted her son to be ‘cool and unique,’” they said.
